MigrantEducation-1

The Vermont Migrant Education Program serves students between the ages of 3 and 21 years whose families move across school districts to obtain temporary employment on a farm, or to find work in agriculture, dairy or logging. Some of the activities that can make a family eligible include work on dairy, vegetable, fruit, tree and sod farms, logging operations, milk truck driving and some food processing jobs. The program supports parents and teachers by providing free educational services and helping students with transitions into new schools. Students may receive services for three years after a qualifying move. Although our main focus is to serve students who are at risk of failing or are not meeting the Vermont standards, we provide necessary support for all migrant students.

Depending on students’ needs, we offer:

• Home and school coordination
• In-school academic support
• After school homework support
• Summer programs
• Literacy-based activities for families
• Community resource information and referrals
• English language tutoring

Does my family qualify?

If you have moved in the last three years from one school district to another to obtain employment in dairy, temporary or seasonal work in agriculture or logging, your family may qualify for services.
