TutoringServices-1

Northeast Kingdom Learning Services’ mission is to offer the highest quality educational services to people, communities and organizations throughout the Northeast Kingdom and beyond. The Tutorial Program is one of these services.

The Tutorial Program’s goal is to bring academic success to all students served by the program. At the same time, the program adds value to referring schools by helping them accomplish their academic and service missions.

The Tutorial Program is approved by the Vermont Department of Education for delivery in all Vermont counties. This approval includes one-one-one instruction as well as instruction in group settings. All instruction is student centered and strength based. The instructor’s goal is to understand the student’s academic and behavioral needs and goals, and to meet that student on a level that she/he will find challenging.

We consider each contract individually and do our best in every case to match the student with the tutor that will best meet his/her needs. We attempt to maintain a staff that is sufficiently diverse to meet the needs of a varied, changing-student population.

Instruction may be delivered at a variety of locations. These may include NEKLS learning centers, school facilities, student homes and town public facilities. To the greatest extent possible, the learning environment selected will be one that reduces negative stressors, recognizes student challenges, is flexible, and is designed to emphasize student strengths. In all cases, the referring school and the parent or guardian must agree to the instruction site.

Instruction is aligned with Vermont K-12 standards and makes every attempt to conform to school curricula and lesson formats, where these are provided, as well as the student’s IEP, where applicable. The referring school will be informed of all absences.

The current hourly rate is available by quote from your NEKLS representative. Under certain circumstances, there may be additional fees above the hourly rate: for example, lab or materials fees, or instruction requiring a specialized instructor.
