Transition

Transition services are a team-based approach to education and career navigation to develop a comprehensive, goal-oriented plan for the future. Through community partnerships, we offer students an opportunity to gain perspective about the next steps after graduation. The students' hopes and dreams are the driving force behind every aspect of this investigative process, with the goal being a well rounded, thought-out plan for their next steps, whether it is continued education or launching into a career.

The transition services work of the Adult Diploma Program (ADP) is devoted to career exploration and/or college preparation.  The work is grounded in positive psychology, particularly character strengths.  Exploring and using these strengths increases students’ resilience and overall well-being, prepares them for meaningful work or the rigors of college, and enhances their daily lives.

From learning workplace soft skills and tackling financial aid applications to writing short pieces on their future lives and career goals, ADP learners can apply the knowledge and self-reflection they attain in their transitions work to other areas of study in their educational plans such as citizenship, writing, health and wellness, use of technology, and critical thinking.

Building on the personal development and career exploration of the previous units, the transitions portion of ADP culminates in hands-on career and college experience. Interviews with practitioners in their chosen fields, job shadowing, college campus visits, and a final career reflection paper give students a real-life sense of whether or not their potential career is the right fit for them or if a college program meets their educational and professional goals.
